Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
I have been preoccupied with thoughts of mortality since my Father’s death in September. Although his life ended as a result of natural causes, he barely escaped the odds of dying in a car crash or in a motorcycle crash. Of course, these odds change as technology evolves. Everything does. And, it appears that more…
The cars of 2015 will bring safety features we never dreamed of. Or perhaps the cartoonists, Hanna-Barbera did dream of them when they created The Jetsons. But, with that new technology and cars that literally take all of the responsibility off of the driver, will that leave us more time to do even more distracting…

I learn an abundance of information from my defensive driving students. This week, everyone has been talking about Ten on Tuesday, a new tradition in North Texas. We all spend more time commuting than we would like. And we all see our fair share of trash on or near our roadways. After all, motorists generate…
When I put my daughter on my insurance policy, my insurance rates more than quadrupled. But still, I thought “Thank God she’s a girl and not a boy.” Even when I was a kid, car insurance was always higher for young men than it was for young women that age. In doing the math, I…

I have been teaching defensive driving for several years now. It’s a job I really do love. I get to make people laugh, get to try out new jokes and even write a few. But, I must admit, I am not a perfect driver. In fact, I would actually consider myself a mediocre driver. Although…
This week, I am on the beautiful Florida coast. It’s a nice, sunny place with a lot of shady people. I suppose that wouldn’t fit on a license plate, so they just decided to call it the Sunshine State. I refuse to go into the Ocean here because everything in the Ocean has teeth (even…
It’s so great to be back home. Road trips are not for the meek. One thing I noticed while driving in Illinois was their reported number of traffic related deaths thus far this year is 731. Which is a significantly lower number than those in Texas, which is 2,644. Of course, the population and size…
