Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?" In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn. Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.

NO DRIVER LICENSE ADS ON BUS

I saw an automobile insurance advertisement on a city bus that said “No Driver License? No Problem!” Now, that’s very disturbing to me. I always thought that you actually need a driver license to insure a vehicle. That just makes sense. Someone told me just yesterday that she was broadsided by a non-resident who ran…

LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING

You’re flying down the freeway, doing 70+ mph, in the passing lane or left lane or fast lane as it is fondly referred to. When, suddenly, as you come over a hill, there it is; that service truck with oversized sheets of glass perched in the back. It’s like a scene in Final Destination; you…

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE IN CARS

Keeping children safe in cars is a top priority because as we all know, babies are truly a gift!  Apparently, they are a gift that you cannot return, unless you have kept the receipt and haven’t removed the tags. When I had my baby, the hospital personnel would not allow me to take my baby…

HOW TO DEAL WITH IMPATIENT DRIVERS

Ugh! Those horribly impatient drivers! Have you ever sat through two red lights because the car in front of you didn’t proceed when the light turned green? Sure, you could have honked at them when the light changed. After all, everyone else does it. And you, amongst many others, are sick and tired of those…

DRONE SPEEDING TICKETS

I was watching a demonstration of drones delivering an Amazon package to coordinates in the middle of an open field. The delivery time was spot-on and the drone flew overhead, about 50 feet above the recipient, then flew back overhead and dropped the package. A tiny parachute ejected to lessen the impact, but the box…

DRIVING FATIGUED

I have always found that it is not a good idea to catch up on your beauty sleep while driving a car. I remember being on a road trip and I was about 20 miles from home, but I was driving fatigued to the point that I could barely keep my eyes open.  I knew…

COURTEOUS DRIVER

Another year has come to an end. And, with that, a new year begins, bringing hope and a fresh new start to be the person that you really want to be. Becoming a kinder, gentler person (like Ghandi, only without the shaved head and lack of appetite). This New Years Eve, on my resolution list,…

CHILD IN A HOT CAR

I really don’t know what exactly created change or forward thinking in regards to leaving a child in a hot car. Perhaps it was a slow evolution over time. When I was a kid, our Mom would leave us in the hot car for hours and go into the grocery store, with no problems. If…

CARS IN FLOODS

Hurricane season is upon us. The news has already been reporting flash floods and cars being washed away, with people trapped inside. Which for many, is their worst nightmare. It is crucial to be prepared with a solid evacuation plan for these kinds of emergency situations. One thing you should do is purchase a glass…

AVOID CAR ACCIDENTS

If I were asked if there was any way to completely avoid car accidents, I would say yes. And then I would suggest that they should just stay home. We had driver education in high school. It was part of our curriculum. We could take physical education, or, we could choose an elective, which could…
