Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
It’s hard to believe that Hurricane Katrina did its devastation over twelve years ago. That hurricane resulted in a tragic loss of lives, homes, businesses and automobiles. I wonder how many flood damaged vehicles were actually re-sold in other states. Fast-forward backwards to 2010, North Texas, car shopping with my daughter. We were looking for…
You’ll have noticed that, when turning left in an intersection, the traditional green signal lights are being phased out and replaced with flashing yellow arrow signals, letting drivers know that they must yield to oncoming traffic when turning left (in case you didn’t already know that, right?). Research has shown that this new signal is…
Every year, when the “Hot Wheels” list comes out, I like to write a blog about the top 10 most stolen vehicles in the U.S. This information alone may help direct you when shopping for a new vehicle. But, I wonder if this list really does affect vehicle sales. And, I suppose this annual list…
What great state offers up to $600 in emissions repairs and up to $3,500 in vehicle replacement? Nowhere but Texas! There is financial assistance for replacing your higher emissions emitting car or truck. If your vehicle fails the emissions portion of the state inspection or if your vehicle is at least 10 years old, you…
Getting the permit or the license for driving only takes a couple of minutes, given that all the requirements have been presented and all of the tests have a passing mark. This applies to those who are 18 years old and above, which is the norm for all the states. If an individual is at…
If you’ve received a traffic citation lately, they look like a Wal-Mart receipt. When I was a new driver, a traffic ticket was a small carbon copy and the price of the ticket was posted on the back side of the ticket. Assuming you were speeding, it would indicate what the cost was by how…
Although I haven’t seen a “Minimum Speed Limit” sign in my neck of the woods in quite some time, driving under the speed limit or not with the flow of traffic is currently the leading cause for motor vehicle collisions. As we all know, it is also a trigger for road rage. The general rule…
Do you know your bicycle helmet and motorcycle helmet laws in your state? There is no state law, nor a federal law in the U.S. regarding bicycle helmets and no federal law regarding motorcycle helmets. I was still under the assumption that the city ordinance in Dallas, Texas mandates that everyone has to wear a…
When Hurricane Harvey was about to hit (and boy did it hit like a prize-fighter), newscasters were warning folks to get fuel now because there will be a fuel shortage due to Texas refineries shutting down. Of course, Texas is the energy capital of the country. They shut down as a precaution before the hurricane…
If Shakespeare were alive today, he would probably write a play about a love/hate story where drivers don’t signal before changing lanes or turning. “To Signal or NOT to signal … that is the question.” There are many theories as to why people don’t signal. I have observed that these theories vary from coast to…
