Our Florida online traffic school is going to teach you a lot of things — important things to keep you safe on the road. You will learn defensive driving techniques that will help you keep your cool, even when faced with stressful situations on the road. However, one stressful situation you might face doesn’t really involve driving. When you experience car or road trouble, knowing how to handle it, and what to do, ensures your safety and the safety of other drivers. Here are some tips to help you deal with car malfunctions on your next trip:

• Find the nearest safe location to pull off the road. Whether it be the shoulder of a highway, the nearest exit, or even a dirt road, you need to get your vehicle off the road. If your vehicle malfunctions and you need to stop immediately, and there is no exit or shoulder, pull as far off the road as possible and turn on your hazard lights.
• Assess the situation, and try to determine if the car can be temporarily fixed, or if you need to call for a tow. Check simple fixes first, such as letting the car cool down if overheated, and refilling with coolant, or making sure the battery cables are tight, or there is plenty of fuel in the tank.
• If the problem cannot be fixed right away, call for a tow truck. Be sure to give your precise location, or as close to it as possible, so the driver can find your car without trouble.
• If the car malfunction cannot be fixed right away, call for a tow truck. such as off the main highway, remain with your car. Be aware of your surroundings as you wait for the tow truck, to ensure your safety.
