Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
Everything seems to have a three second rule now. • Three (3) second stop sign rule before leaving a stop sign or taking a right turn on red. • Three second rule to create a safe following distance on dry pavement. • Three second rule when dropping food on the floor Although I believe the…
One of the greatest wordsmiths of our time was Cassius Clay (a.k.a. Muhammad Ali). God rest his soul. He was not only known for being one of the greatest and most significant sporting figures in history, he was also known for his powerful words, crafted to unsettle his rivals. “Float Like a Butterfly…Sting Like a…
Over 38 million people hit the roads this weekend for the Memorial Day holiday. According to AAA, over 300,000 of those people were going to have to be rescued because of low tire pressure, battery loss, etc. There would be absolutely no excuse for running out of gas, though, since gas prices are currently at…
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month. So you may have noticed the following billboard messages promoting this important safety issue. • Look Twice for Motorcycles and Share the Road • Look twice, Save a Life • Four Words to Avoid “I Didn’t See Him” • Arrive Alive • There’s a Life Riding on It •…
I was just telling someone that most of my Texas friends had moved to L.A. for their comedy careers back in the early 1990’s, but I moved to San Francisco because I don’t like crazy traffic (plus, even living in S.F., I still got to work with Mitch Hedberg (sniff), Marc Maron, Brian Posehn, Johnny…
Ride sharing is a brilliant idea! Not only does it encourage people to not drink and drive, it also is great for the environment and fuel conservation. I am curious as to how much money an Uber or Lyft driver actually makes. And if it is a lucrative business move to become an independent driver.…
Unless you’ve recently had your license revoked, you’ve probably noticed that speed limits have increased. Since 2013, speeds have become more extreme, and they continue to increase. Although driving under the speed limit, or not with the flow of traffic has been found to cause more crashes than speeding, the high impact from speeding crashes…
I saw an automobile insurance advertisement on a city bus that said “No Driver License? No Problem!” Now, that’s very disturbing to me. I always thought that you actually need a driver license to insure a vehicle. That just makes sense. Someone told me just yesterday that she was broadsided by a non-resident who ran…
According to TAPCO (Traffic & Parking Control Co., Inc.), a Wisconsin based business headquartered in Brown Deer, Wisconsin dedicated to manufacturing, distributing and servicing the latest innovations in safety, wrong way driving often leads to a head on collision. In fact, driving the wrong way in one-way traffic or wrong side of road factored into…
I have always been curious about why rolling through a stop sign is called rolling stop, or a California roll (my favorite sushi, btw). I’ve even heard someone call it a Hollywood stop. Now, I have resided in California. And, as I recall, everyone stopped. Or, perhaps I was too busy rolling through a stop…
