Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
I was having trouble falling asleep and all of my fellow zombie friends offered up a variety of remedies. From what I can recall, because I’ve slept since then, they suggested a plethora of both natural and synthetic sleep inducers such as Melatonin, Benadryl and Chamomile Tea. One friend even suggested I watch The Big…
On September 16th, I wrote a blog about seat belts on school buses. Safety experts say it is a “no brainer.” Even young children know better. Since they are always correctly restrained in the back seat of their family vehicle, it’s just becomes a habit. They know that it’s safer. They feel safer. So, it…
It’s always a shock to the system when we set our clocks forward or back for daylight savings time. Now that we’ve set our clocks back for Fall, days are going to be shorter. This means less daylight and more darkness. You’ll probably be driving to work in the dark and driving home in the…
I grew up in a generation where adults were always smoking inside a car with children present. Even smoke on a bus or a plane. Well, now we have one more reason to cause a baby to cry on a plane. Now, with our knowledge of second hand smoke, heck, that’s probably why Froggy, the…
Child Safety is a serious issue and subject to serious consequences. Overtaking (passing) a school bus when its lights are flashing and the stop arm is out is, in most states, well over a $1,200 fine! Some school buses are now equipped with cameras for when the police aren’t present. Not having a child secured…
Thousands of cars are stolen in the state of Texas each year. And what are the odds that the three top stolen vehicles are all pickup trucks. The list has been released of the 2015 Top Ten Most Stolen Cars in Texas. And, honestly, the list hasn’t changed much in the last 4 years. But…
It is said that the car of the future will be the most powerful computer you will ever own. The chips inside driverless cars will be as powerful as those used in some supercomputers. A supercomputer packed inside of a box the size of a car stereo. But don’t tell my mother. She’ll throw a…
Vehicle rollaway is one of the top six common car dangers for a child. When my nearly twenty-year-old was just a toddler, I left her in the car for just a moment, while I closed the garage door. I hadn’t put her in the car seat yet. She scrambled between the seats and pulled back…
I rode a school bus with no seat belts and giant potholes in the road when I was a kid. We’d fight over who got to ride in the last two seats. Those seats were like a ticket to Six Flags. I guess in a small town, kids do what they can for entertainment. Not…
