How your steering mechanism works can make a big difference in your vehicle’s reaction time. A shimmying steering wheel is another sign of trouble. Make sure your steering wheel has a minimum amount of play in it. Play is the looseness in the steering wheel before the wheel actually responds.
Under any circumstances, never turn off the ignition while the car is still in motion. It could lock up the wheel. If you have power steering and your car suddenly loses power, you’ll find it extremely difficult to steer. Do not slam on the brakes. Braking hard will make the steering more difficult. Instead, shift into a lower gear. Now, slowly & safely, ease off the roadway. Although steering and braking will be difficult with loss of power they will still function so use them to the best of your ability.
