Driving at Unsafe Speeds
Driving at unsafe speeds is indeed the number one cause of vehicle crashes; particularly on freeways and expressways and results in about 13,000 fatalities each year.
Speeding is against the law in every state. Each state determines its own limits in certain areas. Yet every year thousands of people die on freeways and expressways where speed is the direct cause.
This includes driving not only over but also under the speed of the flow of traffic. Driving too slow is also just as dangerous as driving too fast. When you are driving too slow that forces other drivers to make decisions to get around you.
Always keep in mind that weather or traffic conditions can be a hazard even at or under the posted speed limits, so prepare yourself to drive according to the current traffic or weather conditions.
