Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
There is one law regarding safe driving around bicyclists on the road that I was unaware of. This makes me think that there are likely many more that I need to be made aware of since I live near a heavy biking area. Before passing a bicycle traveling the same direction as you, the law…
I recently found out that I am allergic to nuts. So I have stopped dating, altogether. I am also allergic to cats. Not the feline, but the musical “CATS.” I’ve seen it once on Broadway and my eyes swelled shut (any musical, for that matter). The real bummer is that I drove to the theatre,…
My nine year old niece is so much like me when I was her age. Her days are filled with lots of daydreaming and asking random questions. One morning while spacing out and eating her cereal she said “Aunt Daun, did you know Jesus’ last name is Christ?” In my family, we fondly refer to…
As of September 1st, the Texas Driver Financial Responsibility Program ends. This means that any suspended licenses will be eligible for renewal and surcharges that are due will be dropped. In the past, I was all for the Financial Responsibility Insurance Program in Texas. We have entirely too many uninsured motorists here. Rarely are Both…
I’ve written several blogs over the years about my dislike for camera lights. And, I am happy to say that as of June, Red Light Cameras are banned in Texas. The Good and Evil of Camera Lights I say good riddance to camera light tickets! As my niece would say, they have just yee’d their…
My mother had to take a driving test on her 80th birthday (both written and in her car). I’m curious if I would easily pass a driving test at this point. When I moved to California in the early 1990’s, I flunked the written driving test twice. Of course I didn’t even crack the booklet…
Every summer we hear of this horrific mistake when we turn on the news. And, a mistake or human error is exactly what this is. We are only human and we all make mistakes. Of course this particular one is definitely a whopper. But it’s not as if the parent or guardian isn’t already remorseful,…
If you were a stranded motorist, AAA used to be the best thing to have. If you can afford it. Now, most insurance companies offer roadside assistance and towing for a nominal fee. In Texas, there is an 800 number printed on the back of your driver license or ID card for roadside assistance and…
I didn’t realize that CarFax was founded in 1984. Thank goodness there are resources like this for drivers. We’d all own a brand new car if we could afford it, along with the taxes and the full coverage insurance that a new car requires. I’ve been talking about buying a new car for a few…
