Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
Not everyone on the road is a good driver. But you could try to be if you drive defensively, you’re alert and ready for whatever comes your way. Being cautious without being timid and not putting your fate in the hands of other drivers will make you a better driver. According to the U.S. Department…
I learned a new word today, neckbeard. A neckbeard is apparently the result of being too busy to be bothered with grooming. At the cost of razor cartridges, I must admit I have considered the legbeard and even beardpits (sounds like a legendary pirate, doesn’t it?…arrrgh). But, it’s not a very Disney-esque visual, is it. …
I just got my first camera light ticket. Better a $75.00 camera light ticket than a $285.00 ticket from a policeman, I thought. It was in my own neighborhood, so if it were from an officer, I would just have driven to my house and ran up to my porch and yelled “BASE!” they hate that.…
Today is the day! My daughter passed her drivers test and now she has the privilege of driving among the rest of us. And, by “us”, I mean the really bad drivers. I’m not saying that she’s a good driver, she’s not. Looking back at my family history, I truly believe that being a bad…
It turns out, Amy Winehouse didn’t die from drugs or alcohol withdrawal. Her official cause of death was from alcohol poisoning. The Grammy-winning singer was only 27 years of age. Alcohol poisoning is relatively common, with 50,000 people in the United States diagnosed with alcohol poisoning each year. It’s typically caused by binge drinking during…
Most people believe that New Year’s Eve is likely the holiday where the most DWI arrests occur. Not true…that is just one evening. Most arrests actually occur at my family reunions. My Mother is the eldest of ten sisters. Every one of them, with the exception of my Mom are all mean, drinking bar-fighting women.…
Not only are gas prices skyrocketing, insurance rates seem to be going up too. As a result, more people are taking a defensive driving class to get an insurance discount. Not only adults, but teens as well. In most states, taking a defensive driving class will award you with a three year discount on your…
Teen and Driver…now there are two words that scare the heck out of most people. And, when the two words are combined, that’s when it’s the scariest. My daughter turned 16 last October. She has had her provisional driver’s license since then, but I have been too “busy” to take her to the DPS to…
When I was a kid, safety was an option. Sure, we had seat belts in the car, but they were conveniently tucked down into the seat. My mom’s arm was our seat belt. And she could knock the wind out of you. My dad used to call her the seat belt. Now he calls her…
With late Spring comes rain, beautiful wildflowers and Mothers Day. What a wonderful Mothers Day gift it would be to take pictures of your children in a field of Bluebonnets. This is what was going through my head as I was driving down I-45 in Texas. And then I saw it! There it was! An…
