Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?" In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn. Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.

Teen Drivers On The Road

Teen Drivers On The Road No more pencils, no more books and no more teacher’s dirty looks. As Alice Cooper put it…School’s Out For Summer! That means there will be more teen drivers on the road. Good for them, but bad for the rest of us. Inexperience is one of the leading factors in teen…

Vehicle Maintenance / AC Tuning

Vehicle Maintenance / AC Tuning Ah, vehicle maintenance, you got to love it! When do you know that your car’s air conditioning is not functioning properly? When the interior is melting like a Salvador Dali painting? It’s hard to believe that not too long ago, men wore business suits, neckties and even hats in a…

Summer Car Maintenance

Life was easier back in the Wild West when everyone rode horses. Feed, shelter and new horse shoes every once in awhile were the only maintenance and upkeep. No dipsticks, pricey fuel and thousand dollar tires every few years. Sure, there would be some negatives there too. Like when you leave your horse in the…

Buying A New Car

Buying A New Car My first car was far from new. And now that I am a parent myself, I realize that my parents were brilliant and insightful for buying me that $60 (yes, I said it…sixty dollar) hideous, gold, four-door Delta 88 Oldsmobile as my first experimental set of wheels. If they had purchased…

Anti-Lock Braking Systems

Anti-Lock Braking Systems The Statue of Liberty is not the only world renowned object designed by the French. And what a gift she was! I can’t imagine how many people it took to gift wrap old Large Marge. There’s also French bread, French fries, French toast (which is just battered French bread, really) and how…

Mountain Driving

I always thought that I would be an awesome mountain climber. Because I am not afraid of heights…but I am terrified of widths. In the past, when I would tour from the Pacific Northwest, all the way down through Colorado, it was good to know a few tips while mountain driving. I had a small…

Driving In Traffic and Passing

Drivers Education 101 says, when driving in traffic and passing other vehicles, always do so on the left…unless you’re in England, in which case you probably would be taking a cab home anyway, or the Tube since you’ve drank yourself silly. And don’t forget to signal before changing lanes to pass that other vehicle, for…

Nighttime Driving

Nighttime Driving When the sun goes down, the potential for bad things to happen increases. According to my mother, “Nothing good happens after dark.” I think she was lecturing me when she said that. But traffic deaths are three times greater at night than during the daytime, according to the National Safety Council. In addition,…

Trusting Other Drivers

Trusting Other Drivers I don’t know about you, but I have trust issues. And I certainly don’t trust other drivers around me while they are texting, tailgating, road raging, etc. How comfortable do you feel telling the person driving you around that they should not be texting while driving? Especially when they have passengers in…
