Someone once said “It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road.”
You Might Be a Horrible Driver If…

You exclaim, while crossing three lanes of traffic to take your exit, “I’m going to take this exit if it kills me!”

You actually tailgate someone to death.

You get compliments from the Lancome counter lady, and you did your makeup in the car on the way to the mall.

You drive with your knees while eating a Big Mac.

You finally do use your signal and then forget to turn the darned thing off. Like the eternal signaler.

You walk into your defensive driving class and everyone in there knows your name (like Norm on Cheers).

Your defensive driving instructor asks you about your ticket and you reply “Which one?”

The police have a rubber stamp with your name and driver’s license number on it.

You can actually wallpaper a room with your tickets.

You finish a text message at a red light. And don’t try to deny it…we all do it.

Your first name is Speed and your last name is Racer.

Your front seat passenger is actually on your laptop screen through skype.

Your wife started framing your defensive driving certificates.

You think a yellow light means speed up.

You spent more money on your laser detection device than you did for your car.

Your insurance agent has put a restraining order on you.

You purposely don’t pay your tickets because you like the food at the jail.

You get frequent speeder miles on your credit card.

Your car’s nickname is “dent“.

As Dudley Moore once said “The best car safety device is a rear-view mirror with a cop in it.”

Until next week…try to keep it safe.

For years there are have been traffic schools, most often held in the basement of a DMV or a rented room in a hotel, these classes have been designed to help you get tickets dismissed, meet requirements for a job and much more. Now there is another choice, taking an online traffic school, that allows you to have more flexibility and offers the opportunity to those that might otherwise not be able to take these classes.

Online Traffic School Can be Taken Any Time

The real value of an online traffic school is that you do not have to take time off, you do not have to travel to where the class is being held and you can start taking it when you are ready to. This flexibility means that more people will take traffic classes and get the benefit from doing so, which is to learn how better to protect themselves and others on the road.

Your Texas driving record is a lot more important than most people think it is, it can affect the fines you pay, as well as the cost of your insurance and even can affect your ability to get certain jobs. Making sure that your Texas driving record stays clean starts with doing your best not to get any tickets but when you do get a ticket you should take the time to get it dismissed by using a traffic school.

Traffic School Can Help Keep your Texas Driving Record Clean

When you take a traffic school class, it will wipe out your most recent ticket provided that it meets certain guidelines. You can do this up to once a year in an effort to keep your Texas driving record clean, or at least keep the points from building up and putting you in a situation where you will end up paying more fines and potentially losing your license.

Florida have become a very crowded state with a lot of different traffic problems, this means that the state and local governments are looking for ways to reduce traffic issues, save lives and teach people how to drive safely. To this end there are certain traffic offenses that now require that you attend a Florida traffic school. If you have never done so before you may not even know where to look for the right school to take.

Florida Traffic School has Two Formats to Make it Accessible to Everyone

The biggest obstacle in taking Florida traffic school is busy lives and the length of the class. Few people can afford the time off that taking a traffic school might require. This is why you can now do both an online and offline traffic school offering you the options that you need to ensure you can meet these requirements.

Recently, Trapster released a list of the ten top cities for speed traps. If you’re not familiar with it, Trapster is a website as well as a smartphone app that alerts drivers to traps, hazards and other traffic issues on their route. Although, 50% of the activity available on trapster involves live police speed traps, it also includes red light cameras and fixed speed cameras. Here are the top ten.

1. New York City – Wow! Number one in the nation for speeders? It’s no wonder New York is three hours ahead of California. Statistics show, they’re number one due to the high number of drivers on the road. And, apparently they list 451 camera lights in the metro area. Yikes! Big Brother is totally watching!

2. Los Angeles – I thought the traffic was so bad that it would be impossible to speed there. Perhaps it’s more of a keeping up with flow of traffic thing. And, once the traffic jam loosens, everyone’s off like a shot trying to regain the time they lost in traffic. Or, trying to catch up with New York.

3. Houston – Now we’re talkin’. No doubt! Houston is like a miniature New York City. I was wondering where Texas cities were going to “place” on the list. I say that like it’s a contest or something. Most cities in Texas are in Trapster’s top 20 list. No doubt, since Texas has a reputation of changing the speed limits on freeways from crazy highs to crazy lows. Yee-haw!

4. Las Vegas – Being such a huge vacation spot with tourists driving around, not familiar with the area, it’s a great place for losing your wallet. Either losing it to law enforcement or at the casino. Either way, vacationing in Vegas is a gamble.

5. Washington DC – “You know…the one where the President lives.” That’s what my Mom always says when she’s talking about Washington DC v.s. Washington state. I find it funny that DC is number 5. They must need the revenue pretty bad. They have over 349 camera lights. I noticed that the IRS gives you a big tax write-off if you buy a house in DC. Anyone smell desperation?

6. St. Louis – They only have 89 traffic cameras in the metro area. But they have a reputation for having a lot of small town speed traps. Small towns with lots of hillbillies, so my dad says, who is from that area.

7. Orlando – Although they only have 41 camera lights in the city, they are noted for being one of the first to install them in the nation. And, it is reputed they did so before they were even legal. Talk about ruining your vacation.

8. Chicago – I only thought Chicago was my kind of town until I found out they have possibly more red light cameras than New York City. Cold, windy and tickety? Maybe it’s not a word now, but you’ll see it on Wikipedia by tomorrow.

9. Colorado Springs – Apparently they use a lot of unmarked cars for law enforcement. When I was a teenager, all cop cars had the lights on top of the car, not in the grill. At night, if I had a car behind me with a luggage rack on top, my heart would start beating out of my chest because I’d think it was a cop…all paranoid. Speaking of…didn’t Colorado also legalize medical marijuana?

10. Austin – The capital has a reputation for people getting tickets for only a few miles over the speed limit. And, of course, like I mentioned above, with the crazy reductions in high to low speed limits…what a great place for an officer to hide behind a tree. Cha-ching!

So now, in addition to radar and laser detectors, there are other technologies available to help you to avoid getting a ticket. Or, you can just use the old fashioned method. Get up early, leave the house on time, don’t rush, and drive with both of your hands on the wheel while you’re looking out for cops.

Until next week…unleash your inner trapster.

Daun Thompson

Why does my garage floor look like a Jackson Pollock painting? Swirls of lubricants and oils, yellow, red and blue. Something is leaking from somewhere and I need to get to the bottom of it before it’s too late. My car is slowly bleeding out and I don’t know what to do. It would be a whole lot cheaper if I could just put a tourniquet on it. And, boy do I wish my mechanic would just accept a co-pay. Before my car runs hot, loses its brakes, or has a transmission that slips due to fluid loss, there is a window of time that the fluids involved are visible around the car. This would be prior to your car’s instrumentation detecting a problem. This is why it is a good idea to walk around your car. Antifreeze will show up in the extreme front of the car, while transmission fluid is usually further back and brake fluid will be found around the perimeter. In addition to fluid leak issues, there are other tell-tale signs of an impending issue with the health of your car. A front end that shakes badly may be due to a bad tire or perhaps suspension issues. Alignment and rotating your tires regularly will make your tires wear evenly and will make them last longer. Axles sometimes begin to make noises which may be the result of a bad wheel bearing or hub. This can be a very costly fix and the longer you let it go, the more expensive it is going to be to fix. The grinding will wear down the metal and at some point, they can’t just be ground down, they will have to be completely replaced. Trust me, I know. The louder the grinding noise gets, the worse the problem is getting. Just like your relationship with that nagging, angry significant other. Either way, turning the music up to drown out the sound will only prolong the problem.
Until next week…take care of your ride. And, in turn, it will take care of you.

A lot of people take a defensive driving school every year to get a ticket dismissed, lower their insurance or satisfy a court requirement. Many people when they go searching for a school and find out there are both online and offline classes wonder which one they should take. The short answer is that it does not really matter, the courts will accept either provided that class is approved, however there are some people that may prefer one over the other or may find one more convenient.

Online Defensive Driving School Offers the Most Convenience

By far the most convenient of the classes is the online defensive driving school, you can take it in your home when it is best for you, and you don’t have to wait for a class to be open you can take it now and get it over with. Some people are not comfortable with the computer and may do better taking an offline class, really it is up to you and your personal preferences as to which one will be best for you.
